Thanksgiving Ideas For Kids
Get the kids involved and excited to learn all about Thanksgiving with crafts and activities. We have lots of ideas to keep them engaged this holiday season. Keep reading to discover some of our favorites.
Children’s Thanksgiving Books
Reading to young children is not just a way to pass the time. It’s an important part of their development. When parents read to their children, they are helping them to develop language skills.
They are also teaching them about the world around them. It’s a special time when the child can sit with their parent and listen to a story. And it’s a time when the parent can share their love of reading with their child!
Below are some of the top Thanksgiving books for kids:
Turkey Trouble – If you’ve never read this book, you have to add it to your holiday collection! It’s so cute and fun and kids just love it! Follow the turkey around the farm as he disguises himself as different animals so the farmer doesn’t catch him for Thanksgiving dinner!
How To Catch A Turkey – Kids who love the How To Catch books will want to see all the crazy contraptions kids make to try to catch a turkey loose at the school!
Pete The Cat: The First Thanksgiving -Every Pete the Cat book is fantastic, but this one takes it up a notch with flaps for the kids to open. It’s an easy way to get the kids excited about reading and Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving Kids’ Crafts
Crafting is a great activity for kids because it gives them a chance to be creative and work on valuable skills. Children gain fine motor skills, scissor skills, and hand-eye coordination when they craft.
It’s also a clever way to teach them patience since sometimes you have to wait to do the next step! Keep your crafts simple with construction paper and glue, or add pom poms, cotton balls, and craft sticks for added texture and dimension.
Thanksgiving is the perfect time of year to get creative and have some fun! Whether you’re looking for fun school projects or for something to do at home, here are some of our favorite Thanksgiving crafts. They come with free printable templates, too!

Name Turkey Craft – This is such a creative way to help your kids learn to spell their names! The feathers of the turkey spell it out, so it’s a fun, individualized craft for your kids.
The free template can either be printed on colored paper or black and white so the kids can have fun coloring in their own turkeys. They’ll practice their scissor skills when they cut out all the parts of the turkey, and their fine motor skills when they glue them in place.
