If there’s one thing that comes to mind with the fall season, it’s leaves changing color from green to vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows.
We don’t get much change in seasons here in Arizona, so we decided to create this simple fall handprint tree craft for kids to remind us of the changing seasons and cooler weather!
It’s another one of our fun fall crafts for preschoolers that’s great to use at home or in the classroom.
Read on below to see how simple it is to make this easy fall tree craft.

Fall Tree Handprint Craft Supplies
- Blue cardstock
- Brown paper or cardstock
- Leaf stickers or colored cardstock to cut out leaves
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pen
Fall Handprint Tree Directions
Cut a section of green paper out for the grass at the bottom of the picture and glue it onto the blue cardstock.
Using the brown paper and pencil, trace your child’s hand, wrist and forearm, flaring out at the end a little to make it look like a tree trunk.
Cut out the handprint and glue onto the green grass.
Peel off the leaf stickers and place them all over the branches. If you’re using colored paper to make leaves, cut them out and glue them on.
Place some stickers along the bottom of the tree too.
That’s all there is to it!
Age Range For This Fall Craft
This simple craft is great for kids of a variety of ages. Older children in elementary school who have mastered scissor skills will be able to do this entire craft with minimal adult assistance.
Younger children, such as toddlers, preschoolers or kindergarteners will likely need help with this craft.
Our best tip for young kids is to have all of the leaves and the grass cut and ready before you start the craft. This will allow the kids to jump in from the beginning instead of waiting for an adult to cut out the pieces.
Of course, you won’t be able to have their handprint and forearm pre cut, but that shouldn’t take as long to get ready.
Thanksgiving Tree Craft
If you want to make this into more of a Thanksgiving craft for kids, we have a perfect idea!
For each of the leaves your child glues onto the tree, have them write one thing they are grateful for. You may want to make your leaves bigger so it’s easier for the kids to write on the leaf.
In our experience, we’ve found that some kids can get blocked by the word “grateful”. Even if they understand what it means, they still can only come up with a few things to write down.
To help your kids truly see the abundance in their lives, use questions like we have listed below instead of using the word grateful.
- What are some of your favorite things?
- Who are some people you love being around?
- What’s the coolest thing about nature?
- What makes you laugh?
- What are you good at?
Whether you make this handprint craft into a gratitude exercise or a simple art activity, your kids will love making it this fall!

I am really enjoying all of your free craft ideas and am so grateful that you put them out here for all of us. If I am being honest, all the hunting for the links makes me want to look for things elsewhere.

Your leaves look amazing on this! The edges slightly curling up! Sooo cool! I hate to say, normally I am not a fan of handprint crafts because by the time the kids (or me) cut them out, the fingers are looking a little ... "pointy" but in this case, if they are supposed to be branches anyways...You have so many winner ideas!!! Thanks soooo much!
