They’ll have fun and learn at the same time with this groundhog name craft! It’s a great way for kids to practice spelling their names and learn what it means if the groundhog sees its shadow.

In this craft, the little groundhog is peeking out of his hole to see if there will be an early spring or more winter weather to come.

This craft is great for kids to work on their scissor skills when they cut out the paper craft, fine motor skills when they cut and glue the pieces, and letter recognition when they identify the letters in their name.

Supplies

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Groundhog template (click the “click here to get your freebies” image at the end of the post)

Directions

Start by downloading the template and printing it out. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this groundhog to life!

First, guide your child to glue the eyes on the head, on both sides of the nose.

Take the tooth and glue it in the middle of the mouth, just below the smile line.

Now, glue the belly to the bottom and middle of the groundhog’s body.

Next, help your child to glue the completed groundhog to the middle of the hole.

Using the rock letters, spell the name along the bottom of the hole and glue them in place.

Winter Activities For Kids

Have the kids learn something new and celebrate this fun winter holiday with these Groundhog Day worksheets. The groundhog welcomes spring and teaches kids that G is for groundhog with the handwriting sheet.

They use their letter recognition to go through the letter maze, and then work on their scissor and fine motor skills when they label the groundhog!

Groundhog Name Craft For Kids

This Groundhog name craft is a great way for kids to practice spelling their name and learn about what it means if the groundhog sees its shadow.

Materials

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Groundhog template

Instructions

  • Download the groundhog template, edit it to add your child(ren)'s name, print, and cut out the pieces you need.
  • Begin to make the groundhog's head by gluing the eyes on the head, on both sides of the nose.
  • Take the tooth and glue it in the middle of the mouth, just below the smile line.
  • Now, glue the belly to the bottom and middle of the groundhog's body.
  • Next, glue the completed groundhog to the middle of the hole.
  • Using the dirt letters, spell the name along the bottom of the hole and glue them in place.
