Make this cute handprint bunny craft for Easter, spring time or when learning about rabbits!
Since spring is almost here, we’re beginning to share all of our favorite handprint Easter crafts.
Kids think it’s magical seeing their hands transform into these cute bunnies and parents love preserving their little one’s handprints for a lifetime! That makes this craft one of the best activities for kids to make for springtime or Easter.
This craft is a great activity for kids of all ages, from toddlers all the way up to elementary-aged children.
You’ll only need a few basic supplies, plus it comes with a free printable template so you can recreate it with ease at home.
Read on below to see how simple it is to make with your kids or students.
Printable Bunny Craft Idea
We can’t seem to make enough handprint crafts for kids, but this one takes the cuteness to a whole new level!
Your kids can use any colored cardstock that they want, so each bunny is unique and special. If you’re doing this craft for Easter, I’d suggest sticking to a pastel color or the traditional white Easter bunny.
You can do the inner ear the color of your choice as well, but I find that darker shades of the bunny’s main fur color look best.
However your child decides to make this bunny craft, I’m sure they’ll love it!
Supplies
- Colored card stock or construction paper
- Glue stick (this one is my favorite for heavy paper)
- Pencil
- White pipe cleaners
- Pink pom poms
- Glue dots
- Scissors
- Bunny template
Directions
Download the bunny template and print onto the colored card stock or construction paper of your choice. Cut out the pieces.
One of the great things about this craft is that there are only a few pieces to cut out and they’re relatively simple.
That means, even young kids who are practicing their scissor skills can try to cut out the pieces themselves!
Trace your child’s hand twice onto colored card stock of the same color of your bunny’s head. Cut out the hand prints. If your child is quite young, you’ll most likely need to help them cut these out.
Take the bunny’s inner ear and glue it onto the base of your child’s handprint. Repeat for both ears.
Once you’ve completed the ears, glue them to the back of the bunny’s head with the fingers pointed up.
Cut out two small ovals to act as the bunny’s cheeks. Glue them on the face, slightly below the eyes. If you don’t want to add any more cutting to the craft, you can also let your child draw on the cheeks with a marker.
If you’re observant, you’ll notice we didn’t do our craft in this order.
The first time we did it, we added the cheeks last, but we realized it would be much easier to add the cheeks before you add the pom pom nose and whiskers.
Cut 3 white pipe cleaners in half then twist them together in the center. Glue them just below the bunny’s nose with another glue dot.
Glue the pink pom pom nose onto the bunny’s face with a glue dot. You can also use a glue stick, but it’s harder to get to stick and the pom pom fluff will get all over the glue stick.
That’ s all there is to making this simple Easter bunny craft for kids.
My kids had so much fun making these little guys, that I know we’ll have to come up with even more handprint crafts for the future.
Adaptations & Substitutions
If you stumbled upon this craft and you don’t have pom poms or pipe cleaners, don’t worry! Instead, you can draw on a nose and whiskers with some markers.
Using markers is also a simple way of cutting down the cost of this craft, although it’s already quite inexpensive. It also helps save time when you have a large amount of kids doing this craft at once.
If you’re making this craft with several young children (like in a daycare or preschool setting), we have a few tips to help it go smoothly.
First, have all the pieces cut out and ready to go. This is especially recommended for children who don’t have proficient scissors skills yet.
Second, we suggest having all the pipe cleaners cut to size and pre twisted. This way all the kids need to do is glue all the pieces together.
Don’t forget that you’ll have to help the children trace and cut their handprints out, so plan the time for that accordingly.
Lastly, we suggest you use only glue sticks and not glue bottles. In our experience young children either have too much difficulty squeezing glue out of the bottles or squeeze way too hard and end up with a giant mess!
Either way, glue sticks that dry clear solve the problem and cause less clean up in the end.
Easily make these at home or in your classroom with our free printable template! Just enter your email in the form at the end of the page.
