Here’s a tip, if you don’t want to use yellow paint for the wings, no worries! Simply grab some yellow cardstock instead and skip painting the second paper plate. It’s super easy and fun to make, perfect for a crafty afternoon with the kids.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s grab those crafting essentials and get ready to make some adorable paper plate chicks that will chirp right into the cuteness zone of your crafting collection!

Supplies

Directions

Alright, let’s get this chick hatching! First things first, we need the chick template. Download it, print it out, then help your kiddos cut out the pieces. This is where our chick starts to take shape!

Now, let’s give our chick some sunny vibes! Take two paper plates and paint them a cheerful yellow. Make sure to cover every corner of the plate. Let’s wait patiently as they dry completely; we want our chick to be bright and beautiful. Remember, one plate is for the body, and the other is for those wings.

Or, if you prefer, paint just one plate and use some vibrant yellow card stock for the wings.

Once the plates are dry, it’s time to bring our chick to life. Glue the two eyes near the center of the body plate. These eyes will give our chick its charming expression.

Next, let’s add the orange beak. Place it just below the eyes and glue it securely in place. Our chick is starting to look really cute now!

Grab the lower egg piece, it’s time to attach it to the front of our chick. Double-sided tape works great here because it sticks so well to the painted plate. No mess, no fuss!

Now, for the upper egg piece. Let’s tape it to the top of the chick’s head. It’s all coming together now!

Adding the chick wings craft

If you’ve got two painted plates, let’s trace those wing shapes onto the second plate and cut them out. If you’re using card stock, just grab those pre-cut pieces. Then, glue a wing on each side of our chick.

How Can I Make This Craft Simpler?

If you want to make this chick with really young kids like toddlers, we have a few suggestions to make it easier.

First, you can use yellow colored plates. If you do this, then you won’t have to worry about painting, messes and waiting for dry time.

Second, you can skip the shell pieces. This will save you time on cutting and you won’t need to have double-sided tape.

Finally, we suggest having all the pieces cut out ahead of time. This way, the kids won’t have to wait around for you or another adult to cut out the template parts.
