Making a paper plate leprechaun is a great way to help kids explore their imaginations and express themselves. Through the creative process, they’ll learn to work with their hands and better understand shapes, colors, and design!

Download the free template and follow our step-by-step instructions below! Your kids will have a blast creating their own leprechaun buddies.

Supplies

Directions

Start by downloading the leprechaun craft template and printing it out. Once you have the template printed, gather the materials needed for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this leprechaun craft template to life!

Let’s transform our ordinary paper plate into a delightful leprechaun face. Together with the kids, pick up those paintbrushes and paint the innermost circle of the paper plate with skin-colored paint. Next, let’s paint the outermost part of the circle in a bright, vibrant orange – think of it as creating his fiery, spirited hair.

Let’s carefully cut off the top 2 inches of the paper plate. This step is like giving our leprechaun a bit of a haircut to prepare him for his hat.

It’s time to bring our leprechaun to life! Let’s find the perfect spot in the middle of his face to place the eyes. With a dab of glue, secure them in place.

Let’s give him a nose by placing it right in between and slightly overlapping the bottom of the eyes. To complete his cheerful look, use a marker to draw a smile just below the nose.

Help your child glue the black band to the hat.

Take the yellow buckle and let your child glue it in the middle of the black band for that extra pop of color.

The final touch for the hat involves the black rectangle – have your child glue this to the middle of the yellow buckle.

With the hat looking fantastic, it’s time to crown our leprechaun. Together with your child, glue the completed hat to the cut edge of the paper plate.

Finally, let’s add those expressive eyebrows. Ask your child to glue them above the eyes, giving our leprechaun loads of character. Alternatively, if your child feels like drawing, they can draw the eyebrows on instead.

How cute is this leprechaun craft?! We used green construction paper for the hat shape and orange paint for the leprechaun’s beard, but your kids can get creative and use different colors if they want!
