Pete the Cat is the coolest children’s book character around. He has a fun personality that naturally draws kids in.
Since we love him so much, we decided to create this simple Pete the Cat headband craft for kids. It’s really easy but captures the essence of cool cat Pete.
If you’ve seen the Pete the Cat show on Amazon Prime, then you’ll notice that this craft is based more closely on the design of the new, cartoon Pete. It’s sure to be one of your kid’s new favorite headbands!
And side note, if you haven’t watched it with your kids, go do that! It’s such a cute show that parents will actually enjoy letting their kids watch!
Whether you’re making a headband craft with your own kids, with children at daycare, the library, or for a school event, we have many great headbands for everyone to choose from. Plus, all our printable templates are ready-to-use and easy to follow!

Directions
Download the Pete the Cat headband template, print and cut out the pieces. Inside our template we have three different ways to make this cat costume headband:
- a full color option – just print, cut and you’re all set
- a black and white option -print and let the kids color it in
- a craft option – make your own exclusive Pete the Cat headband
The rest of the directions below are for making the craft version of this cat face headband.
Glue the black eye piece to the inner corner of the yellow eye like in the picture below. Then glue the white eye piece to the center of the black piece. Repeat this for both eyes.
Take the completed eyes and glue them to the base of the headband so they’re centered. Next take the small, white nose and glue it below the eyes in the center of the headband.
If you want to give the eyes a little more detail, take a black marker and outline the top rim of each eye.
Take the extender pieces and tape or staple them to each side of the headband base. Wrap it around your child’s head so it fits a little loosely then tape, staple or paperclip it into a full circle.
This is such an easy craft for kids to make and unleash their inner Pete! And, if you’re making this with a big group of students, like in a library or classroom setting you can make it super simple by printing off the black and white version for kids to color in. This way, you won’t need as much craft paper, and the kids can still have fun designing their own headbands.
Have them use markers or crayons to color in their own unique cat headband craft! The one cat on the left of the picture was colored in with these markers.
Your kids will love bringing this storybook character to life and unleashing their inner pete-tastic style using our free printable template! They’ll have so much fun coming up with their own Pete the Cat adventures.
