Materials

  • Colored cardstock
  • Watercolor paper
  • Bleeding Tissue Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Dragonfly Template

Instructions

  • Download the template, print it, and cut out the pieces you need.
  • Begin by gluing the smaller wings to the top of the larger wings.
  • Arrange the torn tissue paper pieces on a surface.
  • Use a paintbrush to apply water over the tissue paper, allowing the colors to blend and create a background. Let dry completely, then remove the papers.
  • Once dry, glue the cattails onto the background paper.
  • Draw stems beneath the cattails using a marker.
  • Add details to the cattail tops by drawing lines on them with a marker.
  • Glue the paper leaves onto the cattail stems.
  • Take the layered wings and glue them above the cattail background.
  • Roll the small paper strips into tube shapes and glue the ends together to form the dragonfly’s body segments.
  • Glue the rolled paper tubes together to complete the dragonfly’s body.
  • Finally, glue the eyes to the top of the dragonfly’s body.
