Materials

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Butterfly template

Instructions

  • Download the butterfly template, print it, and cut out the pieces.
  • Begin by gluing the eyes next to the eyelashes.
  • Next, glue the body stripes horizontally across the butterfly’s body. Trim off any excess paper.
  • Take the antennae and glue them to the top and back of the butterfly's head.
  • Trace your child's hand onto one colored piece of paper two times and then a second colored piece of paper two more times. Cut out the handprints. Now, place the handprints with the thumbs on the bottom and the finger facing outward.
  • Slightly overlap the bottom of the prints and glue them together. Now repeat with the other set of handprints.
  • Arrange the glued handprints so they are slightly overlapping, with one color on top and the other color underneath. Glue them together in the center to form wings.
  • Finish by gluing the body to the center of the hand print wings.
