Materials

  • Paper Plates you'll need 3 to make one sunflower
  • Paint in bright yellow, golden yellow, and brown
  • Green cardstock or construction paper
  • Marker
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Sunflower template download form located at the end of this post

Instructions

  • Download the template, print, and cut out the pieces. If you'd rather not paint and cut out the sunflower petals from paper plates, you can print the petals directly onto bright yellow and golden yellow paper and cut them out.
  • Paint one paper plate brown in the middle circle only. Paint another paper plate bright yellow and the third paper plate golden yellow. Let the paint dry completely.
  • Take the brown paper plate and cut out the innermost circle. This is the sunflower center.
  • Glue the eyes in the middle of the brown circle and then use a marker to draw on the sunflower's mouth.
  • Trace the sunflower petal all over the bright yellow and golden yellow paper plates then cut each one out.
  • Place the golden yellow petals evenly spaced along the outside of the paper plate, then glue into place. Make sure you use enough glue to stick the thick paper plates together.
  • Next, take the bright yellow petals and glue them between golden yellow petals. If you want to stop here and just have the flower part of the craft, that's perfectly fine!
  • If you want to create the stalk, cut a thick, long rectangle from the green paper. Trace two petal templates on the green paper and cut out to use as leaves.
  • Glue the leaves onto the stalk, then flip the paper plate sunflower over and tape the stalk onto the back of the sunflower.
