Materials

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Permanent glue dots
  • Glue
  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Black marker
  • Butterfly template

Instructions

  • Download the butterfly template, print, and cut out the pieces you need.
  • Begin by placing 3 popsicle sticks in a line vertically. Cut a 4th popsicle stick into thirds and stretch a glue dot on each cut popsicle stick. Use these to glue the 3 popsicle sticks in place, positioning one at the top, middle, and back.
  • Next, paint the popsicle sticks in 1-2 thin coats of paint and let dry completely.
  • Now, glue the butterfly’s body to the middle of the wing paper. We used glue dots to do this, but you can use liquid glue or a glue stick as well.
  • Glue the eyes to the top of one end of the popsicle sticks, then use the black marker to draw on a smile below the eyes.
  • Assemble the wing decorations all over the wings, then glue them in place.
  • Finish off by cutting 2 small strips of paper in the same color as the body. Glue these to the back of the butterfly wings, by the head, to create the antennae.
