Materials

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Permanent glue dots or hot glue
  • Paint optional
  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Black marker
  • Uncle Sam template

Instructions

  • Download the Uncle Sam template, print, and cut out the pieces you need.
  • Line up 11 popsicle sticks together. Take 3 additional popsicle sticks and stretch 2 glue dots along each of them. Glue each of these popsicle sticks to the group of 11, one on top, in the middle, and on the bottom.
  • Optional: If you want, paint the popsicle sticks in skin-colored paint. Let it dry completely before moving on. You can see in our pictures one craft was painted and the other was left plain.
  • Begin by gluing Uncle Sam's hair to the side and front of the popsicle sticks.
  • Place the eyebrows slightly below the top of the popsicle sticks and glue them in place.
  • Next, take the eyes and glue them below each of the eyebrows.
  • Create the mouth by gluing the teeth to the top of the mouth and the tongue to the bottom of the mouth. Trim off any excess paper.
  • Position the mouth in the middle of the popsicle stick, just below the eyes.
  • Glue the goatee just below the mouth, in the middle of his head.
  • Next, use a black marker to draw on Uncle Sam's nose.
  • Make Uncle Sam's hat by gluing the 3 red stripes to the top of the hat. Trim off any excess paper that hangs over the top.
  • Place the blue band just above the rim of the hat and glue it on. Trim off the excess paper.
  • Glue the star in the middle of the blue band.
  • Finish off by gluing the hat to the top of Uncle Sam's head.
