This fun octopus craft is perfect for both younger and older kids, as it only requires a few simple craft supplies and is easy to make. They’ll love cutting and gluing the paper strips together to create their own paper chain octopus!

Octopus Chain Craft

This is the perfect project for kids to hone their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they thread the strips through each paper loop. This exciting activity works on bilateral coordination, using scissors and glue, and concentration.

Paper chains are also a fun way for kids to count down to something they’re looking forward to! Planning a trip to the beach or the aquarium? Use this paper chain octopus as a way to count down by taking a loop off each day it gets closer!

Let kids customize their octopus with colors of their choice, and use our free template to make things go swimmingly.

Supplies

• Colored cardstock or construction paper
• Scissors
• Glue
• Markers
• Octopus template (click the “click here to get this freebie” image at the end to open the form)

Directions

Start by downloading the octopus template and printing it out. Once you have the template printed, gather the materials needed for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this octopus to life!

First, encourage your child to glue the eyes below the eyebrows,

Next, place the cheeks below the eyes and on the outside of the mouth.

Now, help your child to use a marker to draw spots along the top of the octopus’s head.

Begin making the paper chain by looping one piece of paper and gluing the ends together. Take the second paper strip, loop it inside the first loop, and glue the ends together to form the arms.

Repeat the previous step to create as many arms as you’d like for your octopus. Whether your child prefers 5 arms like our purple octopus or 8 arms like our blue one, feel free to customize the design to suit your child’s preferences.

Finally, once all the arms are created, flatten the loop on one end of each arm, apply glue along the flattened part, and attach it to the back and bottom of the octopus. Repeat this step for each limb.
