Cat In The Hat Kids Craft

This is a great project to do for Dr. Seuss Day or anytime you’re reading this classic book. Kids will enjoy the process of transforming a humble toilet paper roll with this craft, so get started by downloading our free template and see our easy-to-follow instructions below.
Supplies
- Toilet Paper Rolls or new cardboard tubes
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Tape
- Cat in the Hat Template (click the “click here to get this freebie” image at the end to open the form)
Directions
Begin by downloading the Cat In the Hat template. Print out the pieces and let the kids cut out the pieces they’ll need.
Next, let’s give our cat a face! Help your kids glue the head of the cat onto the black-colored paper of the same template. It’s like we’re giving our cat its mysterious backdrop!
Next, let kids craft that iconic hat! Make the hat by gluing the three red stripes onto the main piece. If any paper hangs off the sides, just trim it off.
Let kids give their cat a belly! Glue the belly at the middle and bottom of the body. Now their cat is starting to take shape!
Now, It’s time for the kids to assemble the cat! Place tape along one side of the cat’s body and attach it to the toilet paper roll. Wrap the body around the toilet roll, then use another piece of tape to secure it.
Let kids add the finishing touches by gluing the completed hat to the top of the cat’s head and placing the bowtie at the bottom of the head.
Finish the crafty fun by showing your kids how to glue the completed head to the top of the toilet roll base.

- Toilet Paper Rolls or new cardboard tubes
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Tape
- Cat in the Hat Template
Instructions
- Download the Cat in the Hat template, print, and cut out the pieces you need.
- Begin by gluing the head of the cat in the hat onto the black colored paper of the cat in the hat head template
- Make the hat by gluing the three red stripes onto the main hat piece. Cut off any paper that hangs off the sides.
- Glue the belly to the middle and bottom of the body piece.
- Place tape along one side of the cat’s body and attach it to the toilet paper roll. Wrap the body around the toilet roll, then use another piece of tape to secure it to the roll.
- Glue the completed hat to the top of the cat’s head and place the bowtie at the bottom of the head.
- Take the completed head and press a glue dot to the back and bottom of the head. Push it onto the top of the toilet roll base.
