Directions
Download the turtle template, print, and cut out the pieces you need.

Optionally: If you want the background of your puppet to have a color, glue the flap background portion and the main portion onto the brown paper bag.

Begin to create the turtle’s face by gluing the eyes just above the mouth.

Glue the cheeks below the eyes.

Take the completed turtle head and glue it in the middle of the flap portion of the brown paper bag.

Next, create the turtle’s body by gluing the arms almost to the top of the shell.

Place the legs on the bottom of the shell, with about an inch of them hanging off the shell. Glue it in place.

Glue the belly in the middle of the shell so it’s overlapping the arms and legs.

Take the completed body and glue it to the main portion of the brown paper bag.

Now you’re done! Isn’t this turtle so cute and friendly?!

Animal Unit For Kids
Do you want to create an entire preschool animal unit around this tortoise craft? If so, keep reading below for all of our ideas!
Repeated reading aloud helps children develop language skills, helps with listening comprehension, focus, and so much more. Those are some of the reasons why we always like to start a theme with books!
Below are some of our favorite animal books for kids:
The Box Turtle: Terrance is one unusual turtle. He was born without a shell, so he carries around a box on his back at all times. Follow Terrance on an adventure to discover how it’s okay to be different!
Grumpy Monkey: Grumpy Monkey is one grumpy little fellow but he just doesn’t know why. His friends all try to cheer him up, but in the end he realizes, he just needs one day to feel his emotions and be grumpy!
See You Later, Alligator: Kids who love rhyming and silliness will want to read this cute book about Tortoise leaving on an adventure! On his way out, he must say goodbye to all his friends. But, by the time he’s done, the park gates are closed and he has to stay another day! Kids will want to read this book over and over again.

Crafting is a great way to get your preschoolers’ imagination going! It’s also great for them to work on skills like focus, cutting practice, fine motor skills, and more! Add in some more fun animal crafts! Below are some of our favorites:
