Dragon Handprint Craft For Kids [Free Template]

If your kids love all things mythical and magical, there’s a good chance they’re fascinated by dragons! With their bold colors, fire-breathing abilities, and mighty wings, they’re the perfect fairy tale creature.

Our dragon handprint craft will help bring these creatures to life and give your little ones a chance to get creative. They’ll love transforming their handprints into a powerful dragon!

This craft is also the perfect way to celebrate the Year of the Dragon or Chinese New Year. As your kids craft their dragon, you can teach them the significance of dragons in Chinese culture and how they’re believed to bring good luck!

Simple Dragon Craft

Supplies

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Dragon Template (click the “click here to get this freebie” image at the end to open the form)

Direction

Download the dragon template, print, and cut out the pieces you need.

Trace your child’s hand onto a piece of colored paper and cut it out. Position the handprint with the hand pointed down and the thumb on the right side. Begin by gluing the head to the top of the thumb.

Glue the eye just below the eyebrow.

Take one horn and glue it to the top and front of the dragon’s head. Take the 2nd horn and glue it to the back of the dragon’s head.

Assemble the front wing by attaching the front of the wing to the back of the wing.

Position the front wing on the top of the palm and glue it in place. Glue the back wing to the back of the dragon’s body.

Glue the tail to the back of the pinky side of the handprint.

Finish up by gluing the tip of the tail.
