Can you believe Groundhog’s Day is just around the corner? We love to involve a fun kids’ craft in the groundhog superstition!
Today, we’re sharing how to make this groundhog headband craft, complete with a free printable template to make it even easier for you and the kids to create together. It’s a fun and simple Groundhog’s Day project for the kids!
Of course, you don’t have to wait until Groundhog’s Day for this fun project, which is perfect because it complements all our other Groundhog Day activities for kids.

This fun activity is great to create as a class at school or even as a fun mommy and me project at the craft table.

Supplies
- Cardstock or construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Crayons or markers (if using the color in version)
- Groundhog template (unlock the free template at the end of the post)
Directions
Start by downloading the template and printing it out. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this groundhog to life!
First, encourage your child to glue the eyes at a slight angle, right on top of the nose on the groundhog’s face.
Next, help your child glue the inner ears to the outer ears on both sides.
Glue the teeth just below the smile line.
Finish off the headband’s base by gluing the grass to the bottom of the groundhog.
Finally, guide your child to tape or staple one headband extender on each side to fit your child’s head, and you’re done!

Celebrate Groundhog's Day with the kids by making this groundhog headband craft!
Materials
- Cardstock or construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Crayons or markers (if using the color in version)
- Groundhog template
Instructions
- Download the groundhog template, print, and cut out the pieces you need.
- Begin by gluing the eyes at a slight angle, right on top of the nose.
- Next, glue the inner ears to the outer ears on both sides.
- Glue the teeth just below the smile line.
- Finish off the base of the headband by gluing the grass to the bottom of the groundhog.
- Tape or staple one headband extender on each side and you're done!
