Groundhog Paper Plate Craft For Kids [Free Template]

Soon, we’ll all be watching to see if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow on Groundhog Day! Are you hoping for an early spring or a little more winter?

To get the kids in on the predictions and have a little fun with this holiday, have them make this fun groundhog paper plate craft

Kids can either paint the plate to be bare ground or leave it white to be snowy ground. This is a great way to customize it to the weather in your area.

Paper Plate Groundhog Craft

This fun and easy craft only takes a handful of supplies, including an ordinary paper plate! Kids love to transform an everyday item into a cute piece of art.

Directions

Start by downloading and printing the template. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this groundhog to life!

First, guide your child to paint it in 1-2 thin coats of brown paint. Let it dry completely before moving on.

Take the paper plate and cut the top couple of inches off of the top.

Next, glue the hole in the middle and almost to the top of the flat part of the paper plate.

Place the groundhog in the middle of the hole and glue it in place.

Glue the belly to the bottom and middle of the groundhog’s body.

Now, help your child to glue the tooth in the middle of the mouth line.

Complete the groundhog by gluing the eyes beneath both of the eyebrows.

Finally, encourage your child to glue the rocks around the front of the hole.

Materials

  • Paintbrush optional
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Groundhog template

Instructions

  • Download the groundhog template, print, and cut out the pieces you need.
  • Begin by painting it in 1-2 thin coats of brown paint. Let it dry completely before moving on.
