Supplies
- Paper bag
- Colored card stock (in black, yellow and blue)
- White card stock
- Glue stick (this one works best with thick paper)
- Scissors
- Penguin puppet template (download form at the end of the post)
Directions
Download the penguin puppet template, print and cut out all of the pieces.
Measure the top flap of the paper bag and cut out a piece of black card stock that size. Ours measured 5″x3″. Glue onto the top flap.
Measure the bottom part of the paper bag and cut out another rectangle that size. Ours was 5″x9″. Glue in place.
Glue the white face in the middle of the top flap.
Place the penguin’s beak in the middle of the face, right below the eyes and glue in place.
Glue the white belly to the middle of the bottom part of the paper bag.
Assemble the scarf by gluing the longest piece towards the top of the penguin’s belly. Glue the two ends at angle on top of the first piece.
Take the penguin’s feet and glue them to the bottom of the paper bag.
Finish the penguin by gluing the flippers to the middle of the brown paper bag.
That’s all you need to do to make the cutest penguin paper bag puppets ever!

Age Range Of This Craft
This penguin craft is pretty simple and straightforward so it’s the perfect craft for young kids of all ages.
If you’ll be making the penguin with toddlers, you’ll have to prepare a few things ahead of time. First, make sure all the pieces are cut out and ready to go.
Additionally, you may want to have the black pieces already glued on as well. Then, all the toddlers need to do is glue on the main penguin pieces and they’ll be all set.
Preschoolers will likely need the pieces cut out as well, but older kids will be able to cut everything out without adult help.
Ways To Use Paper Bag Puppets
One of the fun things about making brown paper bag puppets is the versatility of them!
Making the craft itself is a fun activity, but the entertainment and learning doesn’t have to stop there.
If you have a group of kids making these penguins, it would be fun (and educational) to have the kids put on a puppet show!
You can let them free play and come up with their own stories or if you’re trying to teach something in particular, you as an adult can use the puppet to help teach.
This is a great way for kids to learn about storytelling, sentence formation and more! It may also be a fun way to encourage speech delayed children.
Besides storytelling, these puppets can also become a fun “toy” for the kids to play with. Every time my 5 year old gets his hands on a paper bag puppet, he goes to town pretending like the puppet is another one of his toys.
However your kids decide to use these puppets, they are a fun and simple way to entertain!
