Butterfly Craft Idea
Crafting with a paper cup encourages children to think outside the box and use their imaginations to bring their ideas to life. Designing and decorating their insect allows them to express their creativity in a fun way while also honing fine motor skills and how to follow instructions.
If your kids love bugs, they’ll love this fun and easy activity! Gather up a few basic supplies, including a paper cup, download and print the template, and check out our easy to follow instructions below.
Supplies
- Paper cup
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Butterfly template (click the “click here to get your freebies” image at the end of the post)
Directions
Start by downloading and printing the template. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this butterfly to life!

First, guide your child to glue the eyes above the mouth and secure them in place with glue.

Next, glue the antennae to the top and back of the butterfly’s head.

Glue the oval wing decoration to the top part of both wings.

Position the circle wing decoration on top of the oval one, gluing them securely in place.

Now, help your child glue the smaller ovals to create unique patterns on the wings

Place the stripes along the bottom part of the paper cup body and glue them down.

Next, glue the wings to the paper cup body of the butterfly and position them just right.

Finally, encourage your child to take the head and carefully glue it to the top of the paper cup.

I am not a crafty person, but my goal is to become more of one with my four littles this Summer in efforts to keep them off screens as much as possible. THis was super fun and easy. My 8 year old did everything with no problems and did not need assistance. My 6 and 3 year olds needed help.
