In just a few short weeks, all of us here in the USA will be celebrating one thing:
240 years of freedom.
Can you believe that?!
One the one hand it seems like a very long time ago; a time far removed from today’s culture and ideas.
But in the grand scheme of things, it isn’t very long at all.
And yet, sometimes we take our freedom for granted. I have certainly been of guilty of this before. When you live your whole life with freedom and in a great country like ours, you sometimes think this is how it is everywhere. At least that’s the way I used to think until I was in high school.
The day that things began to change for me was September 11th 2001.
I didn’t have anyone I know die in the events of that tragic day, but it did shake me to my center. I couldn’t believe people were capable of such terrible things. And I couldn’t process the things that I was seeing on tv.
My heart still goes out to all of the people who were deeply and permanently affected from that day forward.
But, like all things, there was a silver lining. That day, and every day forward, we Americans were able to see the courage, love and sacrifice of our armed forces and local first responders.
I can’t forget their bravery. And their strength and dedication to this country and our ideals is what reminds me never to take my freedom for granted another day.
I am so grateful for all of our military personnel and their families. You are amazing. You are selfless. You are at the heart of what makes this country great. Thank you so much for your sacrifices!
