It’s almost here.

I feel the butterflies rising in my stomach. The tears threatening to spill out if I blink too long. I imagine trying to keep myself composed.

What’s this looming event?

My first born is going to kindergarten.

And that, my friend, is going to be one of the most emotional days of my life as mom so far. Sure, he’s been to preschool for the last 3 years, but it was only 2.5 hours, 4 days a week. This time he’s going to all day kindergarten. All day; 8 am to 3 pm. My oldest child will be away from me for more time than he will be awake at home!

But that’s not the real issue. The real issue is trusting in complete strangers to watch over him, keep him safe, teach him and help him with anything he might need for 7 long hours! It’s honestly quite strange when I think about it that way. I’m sending my defenseless little child away from me for the entire day, 5 days a week!

It’s almost enough to make me want to homeschool. Almost…

I’m realizing that I need to have more faith and learn to loosen the reigns just a bit more than I have. And since my son’s kindergarten teacher will basically replace me for those 7 hours, I might as well make a good impression, right?
