Tearing the paper to make the Earth is a good opportunity for kids to develop their fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, and hand-eye coordination. So even while having fun creating, they’re enhancing important skills.

All you need to get started on this fun Earth Day activity is a handful of crafting supplies and our free template. This craft is a breeze to put together, making it a great choice for preschoolers to elementary aged kids.

Start by downloading the Earth template and printing it out. Once you have the template printed, gather the materials needed for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this Earth to life!

Start by spreading glue over a section of the earth background paper.

Next, have your kids tear the blue paper into small pieces and start sticking them onto the background paper.

Let’s dive into making the Earth by having your kids glue the land pieces to the blue circle.

Encourage your kids to place the eyes in the middle of the globe, slightly above halfway up, and secure them with glue.

Position the mouth just below the eyes and help them glue it down.

Lastly, guide your kids to glue the tongue to the bottom of the mouth.

Materials

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Earth template

Instructions

  1. Download the earth template, print, and cut out the pieces you need.
  2. Begin by spreading glue over a section of the earth background paper.
  3. Next, tear the blue paper into small pieces, then begin gluing them onto the background paper.
  4. Begin to make the Earth by gluing the land pieces to the blue circle. 
  5. Place the eyes in the middle of the globe, slightly higher than halfway up, and glue them in place.
  6. Position the mouth slightly below the eyes and glue it down.
  7. Glue the tongue to the bottom of the mouth.
