This haunted house shape craft lets preschool through early elementary kids stack tall rectangles, pointed roofs, bright windows, and other simple shapes into their own spooky house in about 20-30 minutes.

Easy Halloween Paper Craft

The uneven towers are my favorite part. One can be tall and skinny while another leans off to the side, and somehow the less perfectly everything lines up, the more it looks like a haunted house should. The owls, cats, spiderwebs, and little “KEEP OUT!” doors finish the scene without making it scary.

Kids get plenty of practice arranging pieces before they glue anything down. They’re comparing sizes, deciding which roof belongs on each tower, and figuring out how the different shapes fit together while they build.

Once the main house is assembled, the drawn roof lines and door details give kids another way to make theirs different. Add the grassy strip along the bottom, and the whole thing looks like its own little Halloween scene.

Supplies

Colored cardstock or construction paper
Scissors
Glue

Directions

Start by printing the template, then gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this haunted house to life!

Take the left house, center house, and right house pieces and arrange them together. Place the center house in the middle, then position the left house and right house on either side, overlapping the edges slightly. Glue the pieces together to create the base of the haunted house.

Glue the center roof to the top of the center house, then add the left roof and right roof to the tops of their matching house pieces. Point out the triangle shapes as your child works to sneak in a little shape practice.

Glue the round window onto the upper part of the center house. Then glue one square window onto the left house and the other onto the right house.

Take the door piece and glue it onto the bottom center of the center house.

Grab the grass piece and make small cuts along one long edge to create fringe. Kids can practice their scissor skills by making the cuts while being careful not to cut all the way through the grass piece.

Finally, glue the grass along the bottom of the haunted house. Gently bend some of the cut sections upward to give the grass a little texture, and the haunted house shape craft is complete!
