Sesame Street is the classic children’s tv show, right? It’s been on since the 70’s and kids today still love it!
One of the most popular characters seems to be Cookie Monster. Seriously, what kid can’t relate to always wanting to eat cookies?!
Because we love him so much, we created this simple paper bag Cookie Monster craft. It’s amazingly easy to create and pretty quick to make too!
If you like this idea, be sure to browse through all of our paper bag puppets for kids.
We’ve also created a free printable template to make it simple enough for young kids of all ages to help with. Check out our directions below or watch our short video tutorial to see us making Cookie Monster.

Directions
Download the Cookie Monster template, print and cut out the pieces so you’re ready to go!
Glue the blue body piece to the base of the brown paper bag. We made two different sizes of Cookie Monsters. The first one was a full-length brown bag and the second was about 3 inches shorter.
You can do either one, but we think the shorter paper bag looks cuter!
Position Cookie’s face to the top flap of the brown paper bag and glue in place. Next, grab his eyes and glue them to the top of his face. Place them so that the eyes are half off the face.
Use your black marker to draw in some fur lines along the base of his body.
There you go! That’s all there is to it to make this Cookie Monster paper bag puppet.
Since it’s so easy to make, we think it would be a fun craft for older toddlers, and preschool and kindergarten children.
C Is For Cookie Monster
Why not take this craft and tie it into a fun learning afternoon for your little one? We’ve got a few ideas to make this happen quickly!
First, you can watch an episode of Sesame Street. There are tons to choose from, so just pick one that you think would be best for your child.
Sesame Stree Kids’ Books
If you’d rather not have any screen time, consider reading to them from one of the following books. Anyone who’s ever been read aloud to as a kid knows how magical it can feel. There’s something about hearing a story that’s just so much better than reading it silently to yourself.
And as it turns out, there are actually quite a few benefits to reading aloud to kids. For one thing, it can help them to develop a love of reading. When kids are exposed to stories being read aloud, they’re more likely to become interested in reading themselves.
Additionally, reading aloud can help to improve kids’ literacy skills. Hearing words spoken aloud can help them to better understand how words are pronounced and used in sentences.
Just One You! – This cute Sesame Street celebrates each and every child and helps them realize they are special!
Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck – If you have a young child who likes picture books, this is a great option. With just a few words and lots of colorful pictures, this book will keep kids engaged!
Cookie Countdown – This book is a fun option for kids! It has 3D cookies that kids can feel. It’s also a great introduction to subtraction and counting!
Sesame Street Activities
After you’ve done that, let the kids move around with this cute Cookie Monster bean bag toss. It’s a simple way to have the kids burn off some extra energy!
This Sesame Street Matching game is a great activity for young kids to work on visual memory and matching!
Elmo and Cookie Monster are two of the most iconic characters on Sesame Street, and now your kids can bring them to life with this easy paper craft. All you need is some construction paper, scissors, and glue, and your little ones will be well on their way to creating their own handprint Cookie Monster and Elmo craft.
