Creating this handmade holiday keepsake is a wonderful way for kids to practice spelling their names and letter recognition. It’s an engaging, hands-on activity that makes a personalized piece of Christmas decor they’ll be proud to display.
Download our free editable template so you can customize it to each child. You can print out the letters of each child’s name on the circles, or leave them blank to give kids a chance to write their own letters by hand. Either way, they’ll enjoy the process of decorating a gingerbread house that’s uniquely theirs!
Supplies
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Black marker
- Gingerbread house template (unlock the image to go to the download page)
Directions
Start by downloading the template and printing it out. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity.
First, glue the outline of the door piece to the center of the house piece.
Next, glue the door to the door outline.
Draw the door knob on the right side of the door.
Color in the peppermint sticks and position them on both sides of the door and glue them in place.
Now, glue the roof on top of the gingerbread house.
Glue the window on both sides of the top portion of the door.
Glue the candy decoration above the door.
Next, help your child to glue the ground snow to the bottom of the house.
Place the roof snow to the top of the roof and glue it down.
Now, glue the chimney to the top and back portion of the snow.
Position the chimney snow to the top portion of the chimney and glue it in place.
Finally, encourage your child to glue the names along the roof snow.
