When you think about a farmyard, what’s the first animal that comes to mind? For us, it’s the rooster! Kids always imagine roosters crowing, waking everyone up at sunrise.
If your little one is learning about farms or birds, this handprint rooster activity is a must-try! It’s a fun and easy farm animal craft that preschoolers and kindergarteners will love.

Easy Rooster For Preschool
This cute and colorful printable rooster template is a sweet keepsake to make with little ones after a field trip to the farm. As they make their handprint birds, they’ll be building fine motor muscles, hand eye coordination, and developing all kinds of early learning skills.
Supplies
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Pencil
- Glue
- Scissors
- Rooster template (click the “click here to get your freebies” image at the end of the post)
Directions
Start by downloading and printing the template. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this rooster to life!

First, guide your child to trace your child’s hand onto a piece of orange paper and cut it out. Position the handprint with the thumb facing up and the fingers facing to the right, then place the wing in the middle of the palm and glue it in place.

Glue the comb to the top of the head.

Next, help your child to take the eye and glue it just below the comb, near the left edge of the head.

Place a dab of glue on the top, pointy party of the wattle and glue the beak to the front.

Now, glue the beak/wattle piece just in front of the eye, on the left side of the head.

Take the completed head and glue it to the thumb portion of the handprint.

Finally, encourage your child to glue the legs to the back of the rooster body.

Materials

Instructions
