Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 15 oz marshmallows
- 3 Tablespoons softened butter
- 1 cup Light cocoa candy melts
- 10 sugar cones
- Red, white and blue sprinkles
- Red, white and blue nonpareil sprinkles
How To Make 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats
In a large microwave safe bowl, combine the marshmallows and butter. Microwave for 1-2 minutes until the butter is melted and the marshmallows start to puff up.
Stir the mixture thoroughly and then mix in the Rice Krispies cereal. Let cool in the bowl.
Microwave the candy melts in a bowl for 3-4 minutes at 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds until melted.
Dip the top of the cones in the melted chocolate and lightly shake to get rid of any excess.
Immediately sprinkle the nonpareils over the melted chocolate to coat. Place in the freezer to harden.
Using your hands, scoop out a portion of the Rice Krispie mix and make into the shape of an ice cream scoop. Press into the candy coated sugar cone.
Top each Rice Krispie scoop with the larger sprinkles, being sure to press them firmly into the Rice Krispie “ice cream”.
Repeat for each cone.
How Young Kids Can Help In The Kitchen
Rice Krispie treats are one of the best desserts for kids to help you make since they’re so simple and fun to mix up.
You can let the kids help you make these treats by:
- measuring out all of your ingredients
- mixing with a spoon
- pressing the microwave buttons (which is a great way to discuss time and number recognition)
- shaking on the sprinkles
Make sure there is always adult supervision whenever your children are making food in the kitchen.
Also be sure to discuss how hot the candy melts and marshmallow fluff is after being microwaved.
