Under The Sea Name Activity
Kids will have an ocean of fun making this sweet mermaid with a starfish crown that spells out their name. Children can customize their mermaid by choosing the colors for her hair, top, and crown so each mermaid is as unique as the one who made it!
While kids may think they’re just creating a pretty mermaid, this project is also a wonderful way for them to practice letter recognition, fine motor skills, and spelling their name. Kids will beam with pride as they show off their finished mermaid to friends and family.

Supplies
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers
- Mermaid Template (click the “click here to get your freebies” image at the end of the post)
Directions
Start by downloading, editing, and printing the template. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this mermaid to life!

Next, glue the eyes onto the mermaid’s face, just beneath the eyebrows.

Then, glue the bangs on her head. Make sure the curve follows the top of the head shape.

Grab the body piece and glue it just below the head.

Now it’s time for some dress-up fun! Help your child glue the swim top onto the mermaid’s body, right across the chest area.

Time to glam her up! Glue the starfish crown just above the bangs.

Glue the letters onto the crown with even spacing, just like the image below.

Glue the assembled face and crown onto the full mermaid hair piece. Kids will love watching their character come together with a fun pop of color and personality!

Now for the part kids love the most—decorating! Hand them a marker or crayons and let them design their mermaid’s crown.

Instructions
- Download the template, edit it, print it, and cut out all the pieces.
- Begin by gluing the eyes onto the mermaid’s face, just beneath the eyebrows.
- Next, glue the bangs onto the top of the head.
- Then, attach the body piece below the head.
- Glue the swim top onto the chest area of the body.
- Next, glue the crown above the bangs on the top of the head.
- Glue each letter onto a point of the starfish crown.
- Next, glue the assembled face and crown onto the full mermaid hair piece.
- Finish by decorating the crown using markers or other craft materials.
