Accordion Turkey Craft For Kids [Free Template]

Thanksgiving is a special time of year when families gather around the table and express gratitude for the many blessings they have. Before the grand feast begins, get the little ones into the holiday spirit with a cute craft project that’s bound to make them gobble with joy!

This adorable accordion turkey craft will keep the kids entertained, and add a festive touch to your Thanksgiving celebrations. The highlight of this craft is creating the turkey’s tail feathers by making an accordion fan out of colorful paper.

Construction Paper Turkey

Get started by gathering up a few basic supplies and our free turkey template. Your kiddos will be well on the way to creating a festive turkey they’ll be proud to display.

Download the accordion turkey template, print, and cut out the pieces. We used cardstock for the turkey pieces and the construction paper for the feathers.

Begin by gluing the eyes just below the eyebrows.

Glue the snood just below the eyes.

Apply glue to attach the beak to the top of the snood, covering the lower part of the eyes.

Next, glue the wings on both sides of the body.

Glue the legs to the back and bottom part of the body.

Fold the paper accordion style to create the feathers. Hold the bottom part of the fan together, then wrap a piece of tape around it to secure it.

Finish up by taping the bottom of the feathers to the back of the body. We also used a glue dot to secure the middle section of the feathers to the back of the turkey.

  7. Fold the paper accordion style to create the feathers. Hold one end of the paper, then wrap the tape around the bottom to tape it together.

Notes

We used cardstock to make the turkey's body so it's more stable and construction paper for the feathers. It's much more difficult to use cardstock to make the feathers.

How do you secure the feathers to the back of the bird? Hard to do, LOL!

Did you tape the folded paper together first and then tape the bottom to the turkey? That's step 1 and then we stretched a glue dot along the feathers and pressed it against the turkey to hold it in place. Hope this makes sense!
