One of the best things about making handprint crafts is how simple they are!

With not too much help from an adult, most kids from toddlers to kindergarten and elementary aged children, can make this homemade card.

If you love handprint activities, but you don’t love the mess that comes with painting little hands, then this paper version is perfect for you!

Card Supplies

How To Make A Handprint Card

  1. Fold the 8.5″x11″ green card stock in half “hamburger” style.
  2. Trace your child’s left hand on the paper, with their pinky placed along the fold line.
  3. Cut the handprint out with scissors, leaving the fold line along the pinky intact.
  4. If you’re using googly eyes, glue the 1″ eye in the center of the handprint, then glue the 1/2″ eyes on either side of the center eyeball, at a slightly lower position. Skip to step 8.
  5. Using the 1″ circle punch, cut out a circle from the white cardstock for the large, middle eye. Punch or cut out a pupil for this eye with the 1/2″ circle punch (or scissors). Glue the black pupil to the center of the white eye with the glue stick.
  6. With the 1/2″ circle punch, cut out two 1/2″ circles from the white card stock for the 2 smaller eyes. Using the 1/4″ circle punch or scissors, cut out 1/4″ circles from the black card stock for the pupils. Glue the black pupils to the 1//2″ white eyes.
  7. Draw a smile or “ooooh” face on with the black sharpie.
  8. Open the card up and write a fun message!
  9. Using the 1″ circle punch or scissors, cut out a 1″ circle from the green cardstock for the top of the alien’s antenna. Glue this to the top of the handprint’s middle finger.

This alien handprint card is really such a simple and fun handmade card idea to give to Mom or Dad. You can use it for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day or for your child’s teacher!

We love writing, “You’re out of this world” for the inside message, because who doesn’t love a cheesy little message to tie it all together?!

Since Toy Story is such an iconic movie, this easy craft will never be out of style and kids will have a blast making it. Plus, it appeals to kids and adults of all ages!

Making This Card In The Classroom

If you’re making this alien craft at school, there are a few suggestions we’d make to have the whole process go by easier.

First, to make it easier, we would have all the eyes, pupils, and antenna tops punched out and ready to go. You can of course have the children cut them out if they’re old enough and have the fine motor skill necessary to do so, but it will be much simpler to have this part done ahead of time.

If you don’t have circle punches you can also substitute 2 different sized googly eyes as well! This can add a fun, 3D aspect too.

We would also suggest you remind kids to draw their smiles on with pencil first so they can erase if they make any mistakes and make the mouth exactly how they want it.

Since it’s more difficult to keep an eye out on all the kiddos at once, we suggest swapping out the fine tip permanent markers for more classroom friendly washable markers, like these ones

That’s really all you need to know to make this simple handprint craft in the classroom with your students!
