To begin with, print out the free watermelon template. Then, gather up a few supplies, such as colorful construction paper, scissors, glue, and pipe cleaners.
Read on below for our step-by-step guide on how to put it all together.

- Watermelon Template (click the “click here to get your freebies” image at the end of the post)

Directions
Start by downloading and printing the watermelon template, then cut out all the pieces together. This is a great chance to practice those scissor skills!

Grab the watermelon skin and rind pieces. Glue the light green rind on top of the green skin, making sure to leave a bit of the darker green showing along the bottom edge.

Next, take the red watermelon fruit piece and glue it above the rind, overlapping so it looks like a real slice.

Now it’s time to add some personality! Glue those adorable eyes onto the red part of the watermelon, above the mouth.

Grab a red pipe cleaner and start twisting one end into a fun little hand shape.

Now flip your watermelon friend over and lay the arms where you want them. When you flip it back, you want them to stick out just right.

Happy with the placement? Go ahead and tape the arms down securely.

Now, grab the second red pipe cleaner with the hand shape. Line it up just like the first one, making sure it’ll peek out from the side. Then use some clear tape to secure it to the back.

Use green pipe cleaners to create two legs. Give them some fun loops at the bottom so it looks like they’ve got little feet.

Just like you did with the arms, flip the craft over and lay the legs where you want them to peek out.

Tape the legs down, making sure they’re spaced evenly and pointing the right way.

Don’t you just love how cheerful it looks? We think your kids will have a blast making this one—and if you’re looking for more, be sure to check out our fun summer handprint crafts for kids!
