Handprint Cactus Mother’s Day Card Craft For Kids

This Mother’s Day, show Mom how much you appreciate her with a homemade handprint cactus Mother’s Day card!

This activity is perfect for kids of all ages, and best of all, no paint is necessary. All you need is some green construction paper, scissors, and glue.

When the kids are finished, they’ll have a beautiful card to give to Mom or Grandma on her special day. They’ll also be working on fine motor skills too!

Supplies

Directions

First, fold a piece of green card stock in half and trace your child’s left hand on it, positioning the pinky side along the fold line. Carefully cut out the handprint, making sure to leave the left side uncut.

Grab the black marker and let your kids make spines all over the cactus handprint.

On the pink paper, draw a half-oval shape slightly wider than your child’s handprint to serve as the pot. Create a small sliver on the dark pink paper for the water tray. Cut out both pieces. Glue the water tray to the bottom of the plant pot, then attach the pot/tray piece to the bottom of the handprint cactus.

Open the card and have your kids write a sweet message to Mom inside.

Finally, using glue, help them attach the mini flower embellishments all over the handprint cactus.

Handprint Cactus DIY Mother's Day Card

This handprint cactus card for Mother's Day is an easy craft for kids to make this year!

Materials

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Black marker
  • Pencil
  • Mini paper flower embellishments

Instructions

  1. Fold a piece of green card stock in half and trace your child's left hand on it, with the pinky side on the fold line. Cut the handprint out, making sure to leave the entire left side of the handprint uncut. This will be the fold line for the card. 
  2. Use the black marker to make spines all over the cactus handprint. 
  3. Draw a half oval shape on the pink paper that's a little wider than your child's handprint to serve as the pot. Make a small sliver on the dark pink paper to serve as the water tray. Cut both out. 
  4. Glue the water tray to the bottom of the plant pot, then glue the pot/tray piece to the bottom of the handprint cactus.
  5. Open the card and write a sweet message to Mom!
  6. Using the glue, attach the mini flower embellishments all over the handprint cactus.
