Fall is here and we couldn’t be more excited about it!
Autumn is the time of year to slow down, spend more time with family, and take in the change of weather.
When we think of fall, we immediately think of all the adorable little forest critters that we associate with this time of year.
And, if you’ve seen any of our recent projects you know that handprint crafts are one of our favorite activities!
This handprint hedgehog craft is the perfect blend of fall and fun!!!
Read on below or watch our step-by-step video to see how simple it is to make this cute fall craft.

One of our favorite things about this craft is how it uses common craft supplies you probably already have sitting around in your craft closet.
Supplies
- Colored card stock (in dark brown, light brown, and cream)
- Googly eyes
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Hedgehog template
Directions
Download the hedgehog craft template and print it onto the correct colored paper. Cut out all of the pieces.
Trace your child’s hand onto the dark brown paper four times and cut each handprint out.
Position the 4 brown handprint cutouts in a fan shape and glue together.
Place the light brown body in the middle of the handprint fan and glue in place.
Glue the googly eyes slightly above the hedgehog nose.
Secure the cream belly slightly below the hedgehog’s mouth with the glue stick.
Glue each of the hedgehog’s arms on either side of the cream belly with the rounded arms facing in.
Glue the 2 hedgehog ears above the body, floating on top of the brown handprints.
That’s all there is to it!
We love this adorable little fall themed craft and kids love making this craft with so many handprints.

What Age Range Is This Craft For?
We believe one of the best things about kids’ crafts is the ability to simplify or extend them in order to best suit the age range of kids that you have.
For this craft, we see it being able to be done with preschoolers, all the way through 3rd or 4th grade children.
If you plan to do this hedgehog craft with kids on the younger end (preschool-kindergarten), just be aware that they will likely need adult assistance in completing the tasks.
Since kids this young generally don’t have their scissors skills perfected yet, they’ll need an adult helper to cut out all of their pieces, including their handprints.
Once they have all the pieces cut out and ready for them to go, they should be able to model the example and only need a bit of help in gluing everything in place.
Those children on the older side of the spectrum will be able to complete the entire craft without any help from an adult.
Handprint Hedgehog Craft Notes
In the pictures we shared, the handprints were based on my almost 5-year-old son. We tried to use three handprints for the hedgehog’s spikes, but it didn’t look full enough, so we went with the 4 handprints.
If you’re doing this craft with older children with larger hands, you might not need to do four handprints per child.
Additionally, if you don’t have all the supplies on hand, we have a couple of suggestions that may help!
First, if you don’t have googly eyes on hand, you can skip those and just let the children draw on their own eyes. You can let them get creative and not only draw the standard eyes, but you can talk about emotions and have them draw happy eyes, scared eyes, angry eyes, and so on.
If you don’t have all the colored paper that we used, you can forgo the cream colored belly and either make it the same dark brown as the handprints or you can have the kids color them in before they glue the hands onto the belly.

Why on some of these crafts when I look for the template there isn't a place to get them? Also, it seems that on my home computer I can't download any when there is. I can download on my phone, but that takes extra steps.
