Directions

Start by downloading the dog template and printing it out. Once you have the template printed, gather the materials needed for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this Statue of Liberty to life!

Get the body piece and add a piece of tape on one side.

Now, line up the taped edge of the robe piece with the toilet paper roll and press it down firmly. This creates the starting point for wrapping.

Once the first edge is secure, add another strip of tape to the other side of the paper. You’re prepping it to complete the wraparound.

Carefully wrap the green robe piece around the toilet paper roll and press down the taped end to finish.

Take the face cutout and help your child glue the eyes on it. This step is great for little hands practicing fine motor skills.

Once the eyes are on, turn the crown piece over and place a small strip of double-sided tape along the bottom edge. This will make it easy to attach the face securely in the next step. You can also use glue, but tape is easy to use and doesn’t require drying time.

Grab your cardboard tube and attach the finished head to the top. At this point, it’s starting to come together, and your child will start to recognize who they’re making!

Now it’s time to build her iconic torch! Grab the green torch base and the little orange flame. Add some glue and secure the flame to the top and back of the torch.

Take the left arm piece and attach it to the side of the body so it sticks straight out. This is where the torch will go. Keep it lined up close to the top, just under her head.

Now that her arm is in place, attach the torch right on top so it looks like she’s holding it up high.

Now attach the right arm to the opposite side of the body. Once it’s on, Lady Liberty is ready to shine!

Materials

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Toilet Paper Roll
  • Standard Tape
  • Double Sided Tape
  • Statue of Liberty Template

Instructions

  • Download the template, print it, and cut out all the pieces.
  • Begin by adding tape to one side of the body piece.
  • Next, press the taped edge onto the toilet paper roll to start wrapping.
  • Then, add tape to the other edge and finish wrapping the body piece around the roll.
  • Add the eyes to the face cutout.
  • Flip the crown over and add double-sided tape to the bottom edge.
  • Next, tape the finished head to the top of the toilet paper roll.
  • Stick the flame onto the top of the torch base.
  • Attach the left arm to the side of the body.
  • Add the torch to the left hand.
  • Finish by attaching the right arm to the opposite side of the roll.
