Inside: Enough with all the rules! Keep it simple with this family rules free printable wall art that’s perfect as nursery art, playroom art or even living room art.
I love rules.
I am the poster child for rules. Always have been and probably always will be. It’s something in my blood; I hate to go against the rules (hello, Emmett from the Lego movie!).
But I don’t always think it’s a good thing.
In fact, more and more these days there are way too many rules.
We have school rules (which in the mama’s opinion are getting out of hand), church rules, rules for parks, playgrounds, sports, daycare and more. And now family rules??? I mean, they’re EVERYWHERE!
I get it. Rules help people behave appropriately and be safe. But even I, the rule-following Queen, am being suffocated by all the rules.
So I’ve decided to throw away the rules.
No, I won’t let my kids run around willy-nilly, acting like little maniacs hopped up on sugar wherever we go.
But I am going to let my kids think for themselves a bit more. Instead of a list of rules a mile long that they must follow, I want to teach them principles. And then I’ll let them try to implement those principles in their lives a little bit at a time.
Will I have to coach them on how to correctly use these principles? Definitely.
Will they make lots of mistakes? Certainly.
Would I rather be a guiding hand to my children instead of a ruthless prison warden checking off all the rules they’ve followed each day? Heck yes!
