All activities require adult supervision. By using this site, you agree to our terms of use.
Spring brings fresh energy, and your little ones will be excited to create this ladybug paper craft. Kids ages 5-8 will make a paper ladybug in tall green grass using our free template.
We have a couple of templates to choose from, depending on your child’s skill level, that can be made in about 25 minutes. The craft version can be completed independently by older children, or you could cut out the pieces to help your younger children, or opt for the black and white version for them to color.
Educators can pair it with nature units or life cycle discussions, or it would make a great book companion activity at home or at the library. Be sure to explore more of our spring crafts to keep the creativity flowing all spring long.

A Fun Insect Activity That Builds Cutting and Gluing Skills
Little hands will love layering the pieces to create a paper scene of a ladybug outside in the grass. This ladybug paper craft encourages kids to think about nature while arranging shapes and colors into a finished picture they can proudly display.
Each step strengthens their fine motor development and hand-eye coordination, along with improving visual sequencing and early spatial awareness. Plus, lessons on insects or springtime fit naturally alongside this classroom craft or home activity.

Directions
Start by printing the template, then gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this ladybug to life!

Look for the two red wing pieces and glue them onto the top of the black body. Overlap them slightly in the middle so they meet.

Now grab the black head piece and glue it to the top of the body, so it covers up the top of the wings.

Take the two antenna pieces and glue them to the back of the head so they stick up at the top.

Next, look for the eye pieces and glue them onto the head. Place them near the top portion of the face with a little space between them.

Grab your Bold & Bright marker and draw a small curved smile right under the eyes.

Now, use your pink marker to lightly color in two small circles on each side of the smile for rosy cheeks. That sweet little face makes such a difference.

Next, find the leg pieces. Glue them to the back of the bottom portion of the body so the legs peek out underneath. Now your ladybug looks ready to crawl through the garden.

Let’s build the background! Take the green hill piece and glue it along the bottom of the blue background paper. Press it down firmly so it sticks well.

Now, glue the ladybug on top of the green hill. Press gently and smooth it down. It looks like your ladybug is sitting in the grass!

For the final touch, glue the grass along the bottom edge of the hill, slightly overlapping the bottom of the ladybug. This gives the craft a fun, layered look and makes it feel extra special.

And just like that, your ladybug paper craft is complete! It is such a sweet and simple spring activity that kids will be proud to show off. If your little ones loved making this, be sure to check out other cute ladybug crafts for even more fun and creative ladybug ideas to try next.
