One Fish Two Fish Craft
This hands-on activity is a great addition to a Dr. Seuss’ birthday celebration or as a book companion project to make storytime even more interactive. Once their puppets are ready, little readers can use their imaginations to act out scenes or come up with new adventures for their fishy friends.
Getting started is as easy as downloading our free template and gathering a few simple supplies! Kids will love creating their own colorful fish puppets, and you’ll love how this project encourages creativity and developing fine motor skills.
Supplies
- Brown paper bag
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- One fish two fish template (enter your email in the form at the end of this post to get the template)
Directions
Start by downloading and printing the template. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this puppet to life!

First, guide your child to glue the eyes below the eyebrows.

Glue the ocean background piece onto the main part of the brown paper bag.

Next, help your child to glue the fish head to the top of the paper bag.

Now, glue the body of the fish to the main portion of the brown paper bag.

Finally, encourage your child to glue the arms of the fish on both sides of the body, right below the flap portion of the bag.

Instructions
- Download the one fish two fish puppet template, print it, and cut out the pieces.
- Begin by gluing the eyes below the eyebrows.
