This owl card craft for kids is a fun activity to do at home or in the classroom! We love animal crafts so we’re always up for making another one to add to our collection.
If you make it at school, kids can bring it home for Mom or Dad on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.
You can also make it at home and give it to someone special for a birthday or any occasion you have coming up!
Since this craft doesn’t have many pieces or steps, it’s ideal for preschool, kindergarten and elementary children.
Depending on their skill level, they may need help with cutting out the template pieces, but the rest of the craft is super simple to glue together!
Read our directions below or watch our step by step video to learn how to make this craft with your kids or students.
Owl Craft Idea

One great thing about homemade cards is everyone loves them and they’re simple and cheap to make!
All you need is some colored paper and basic crafting supplies and you’re all set. We went with brightly colored paper, but you can also choose more realistic hues in shades of brown and gray.
To give it that bright look we suggest colored card stock, but if you don’t have access to that you can also use construction paper.
Supplies
- Colored card stock
- White card stock
- This glue is our favorite
- Scissors
- Owl template (download form located at the end of this post)
Directions
If you don’t want to freehand the owl pieces, be sure you download the free printable template by entering your email in the form at the end of this page.
Once you do, you’ll need to decide whether you’re making this craft with one or two kids or a group of kids. Inside the template, there are pieces for either.
Print out the pages you need then cut out the pieces.

Start off by gluing the big owl eyes towards the top of the owl’s body. We positioned the eyes so they’re almost touching each other.

Next, glue the yellow beak on top of the eyes, like in the pictures. If you want to save yourself cutting out a piece of the template, you can also just cut out a yellow triangle for the beak.

Place the owl’s wings, one on each side of the body and glue in place. We used a contrasting color for the wings and belly, but feel free to do whatever color(s) you want!

Once you’re done with the wings place the two yellow feet on the bottom of the owl and glue in place.

Finish the owl up by gluing the belly flap to the middle of the owl’s body and write a cute message inside!

If you don’t want to make this craft into a card, just cut the belly out on a flat piece of paper instead of a folded one.
Isn’t this little owl too cute?!

Because of the simplicity of this project, it’s a great craft to make with toddlers, preschool and kindergarten children.

We’re certain if you make this owl in the classroom, Mom or Dad will love receiving it for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day!

I don’t see anywhere to put my email to get the template. Where can I find it?
It’s above the comments section, under the heading titled “Owl Template”.
@Sam,
I see the heading “Owl Template”, but there is nowhere for me to enter my email or download. After the heading, there is just the option to share the post via facebook, twitter or pinterest. I have tried on different browsers and different computers but no luck.
It sounds like you may have a firewall blocking it from appearing. If you can allow the page or try on a personal device, you should be able to see it.
So cute i want my kids to make it as fathers day gift
