As kids cut, glue, and decorate, they’ll be practicing essential fine motor skills, developing creativity, and enjoying the satisfaction of making something all by themselves.
You might already have some paper cups in your pantry leftover from a party, making this activity even more convenient! So grab the template, a few supplies, and the cups to start!
Supplies
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Glue stick
- Glue dots (optional)
- Scissors
- Marker
- Owl template (unlock the free template at the end of the post)
Directions
Start by downloading the template and printing it out. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this owl to life!
First, guide your child to glue the eye outline to the center of the background paper.
Place the eyes in the center of the eye outline and glue them in place.
Next, help your child glue the beak below the eyes.
Position the head to the top portion of the cup and glue it in place. We like to use glue dots for this so there’s no drying wait time.
Now, draw the feathers below the head of the owl.
Finally, encourage your child to glue the wings to the sides of the feathers.

Materials
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors

- Owl template
Instructions
- Download the owl template, print it, and cut out the pieces you need.
- Begin by gluing the eye outline to the center of the background paper.
- Place the eyes in the center of the eye outline and glue them in place.
- Next, glue the beak below the eyes.
- Arrange the cup with the rim down. Position the head to the top portion of the cup and glue it in place. We use a glue dot to secure the head to the cup.
- Now, draw the feathers below the head of the owl.
- Finish off by gluing the wings to the sides of the feathers.
