Fans of Pete the Cat will love creating this easy and fun Pete the Cat headband craft after reading a favorite book or watching an episode of the show. It’s great for preschool, pre-k, and early elementary kids and takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. They’ll create an iconic hat by either coloring the black and white template or assembling it with colored paper.
This book companion activity will give your cool cats another way to connect with a favorite character and practice important developmental skills.

Supplies
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Black marker
- Stapler or tape

Directions
Start by downloading and printing the template. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this cool cat to life!
First, guide your child to glue the iris to the inner corner of the yellow eye like in the picture below.
Next, help your child to glue the pupil to the center of the black piece. Repeat this for both eyes.
Take the completed eyes and glue them to the headband’s base so they’re centered.
Now, take the small white nose and glue it below the eyes in the center of the headband.
If you want to give the eyes a little more detail, outline the top rim of each eye with a black marker.
Finally, encourage your child to take the extender pieces and tape or staple them to each side of the headband base. Wrap it around your child’s head so it fits a little loosely, then tape, staple, or paperclip it into a full circle.

Materials
- Colored card stock
- Glue stick
- Black marker
- Tape or stapler
- Pete the Cat headband template
Instructions
- Download the Pete the Cat template, print it, and cut out the pieces.
- Begin by gluing the black part of the eye almost to the innermost corner of each eyeball.
- Next, glue the white part of the eye in the center of the black part.
- Take the completed eyeballs and glue them in the center of the headband base.
- Glue the white nose just below the eyes.
- Take a black marker and trace the upper rim of both eyes.
- Attach as many headband extenders as needed to fit your child with tape or staples.
