3D Ladybug Craft With Free Printable Template

Ladybug Craft Idea

A little folding and layering create a cool effect that adds extra fun to this spring scene with 3D grass and ladybug. This is an adorable hands-on activity that kids will love making and showing off.

Use our free template to make it easy to make the ladybug’s signature spots and wings.

Just gather a few basic supplies, and in no time, kids will have a bright and cheerful ladybug in a spring background, ready to brighten up any space.  

Supplies

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Directions

Start by downloading and printing the template. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this ladybug to life!

Next, take the eye pieces and glue them onto the ladybug’s head.

Take the red and black spotted wings and gently fold the edge on the dashed line to add a little lift.

Glue only the edges of the folded wing to the body piece to create a fun 3D effect that makes the wings look ready to flutter!

Then, do the same step for the other wing.

Take the grass piece and use scissors to cut thin strips along one edge. This will create a fun, grassy fringe for the background.

Give your grass some texture by cutting the edges at different lengths.

Now, glue the grass strip onto the bottom of your blue background paper. This will form a cute outdoor setting for your ladybug.

Fold a small white paper strip like an accordion. This little trick gives your ladybug a fun 3D effect.

Flip your ladybug over and glue the folded paper right in the center.

Flip your ladybug back over and stick the folded paper to the top of the blue background—now it looks like it’s hovering, just like a ladybug about to take flight!

Materials

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Ladybug Template

Instructions

  • Download the template, print it, and cut out the pieces you need.
  • Glue the eyes onto the ladybug's head.
  • Fold the edge of the wings along the dashed line to add dimension.
  • Glue the edges of the folded wing to the body piece for a 3D effect.
  • Repeat the same step for the other wing.
  • Make thin cuts along the edge of the grass piece to create grass.
  • Vary the lengths of the cuts to add texture.
  • Glue the grass strip to the bottom of the background paper.
  • Fold a small paper strip like an accordion.
  • Flip the ladybug over and glue the folded paper in the center.
  • Turn the ladybug back over and attach the folded paper to the top of the background.
  • Glue the clouds above the ladybug to complete the scene.
