Creating a puppet out of a paper bag allows children to explore imaginative play while developing fine motor skills. Kids will also build their hand-eye coordination and practice following instructions as they cut and glue each piece in place.

Supplies

Directions

Start by downloading the firefighter template and printing it out. Once you have the template printed, gather the materials needed for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this firefighter to life!

First, encourage your child to glue the eyes on the center of the face. For the girl firefighter, glue the eyes to the inside of the eyelashes.

Next, glue the hair to the top portion of the face.

Create the helmet by gluing it to the top of the hair.

Now, glue the sides of the head to the base of the helmet.

Place the helmet badge in the center of the helmet and glue it in place.

Glue the yellow circle buttons to the left of the black circles.

Position the belt strap below the circles and glue it in place.

Attach the outer buckle to the center of the belt strap and glue it in place.

Next, guide your child to glue the inner buckle to the center of the outer buckle.

Take the completed body piece and glue it to the main portion of the paper bag.

Glue the head to the flap portion of the bag. If you’re making a girl firefighter, glue the back of the girl’s head to the back of the flap portion.

Create the arms by gluing the gloves to the end of the arms.

Finally, help your child glue the arms, one on each side of the body.

When kids are learning about different community helpers, this firefighter puppet craft will be a fun one for them to make! They can use their imaginations and storytelling skills to bring this puppet to life.

Materials

  • Brown paper bag
  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Firefighter template

Instructions

  1. Start by downloading the firefighter template and printing it out.
