Directions
Print the template and gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this groundhog to life!

Look for the two eyes. Glue them below each eyebrow.

Now grab a white marker or paint pen and draw a small rectangle of teeth right under the smile. This tiny detail adds so much personality, and kids love seeing it appear.

Find the two small circle ear shapes. Add glue to the back of each ear, then attach them to the back and sides of the head.

Take the large rectangle body shape and the beige oval belly shape. Glue the oval right in the center of the rectangle. This helps kids see how shapes layer together to create a picture.

Next, look for the two oval arm shapes. Glue one on each side of the top of the belly so they angle inward like the groundhog is holding its paws together.

Using a brown marker, draw small curved lines at the bottom of each arm to create the groundhog’s paws.

Repeat on the other arm. This step is simple but really helps define the animal.

Grab the green rectangle grass shape. Using scissors, cut straight slits along the top edge to make grass fringe. Stop before you reach the bottom so it stays one solid piece.

Add glue along the bottom portion of the rectangle body shape. Glue the green grass rectangle across the bottom so it looks like the groundhog is popping out of the ground.

Now for the exciting part! Glue the finished head to the top of the rectangular body. Hold it in place for a few seconds and admire how quickly it comes together.

Lastly, use a black marker and draw a thin vertical line straight down the center of the white rectangle tooth shape. This gives your groundhog that classic, adorable look!

This activity is such a fun way for kids to practice shapes, fine motor skills, and creativity while celebrating. Be sure to check out our other Groundhog Day crafts while you’re here for even more easy and festive activities your kids will enjoy!
