Groundhog Day Kids Craft
This hands-on activity celebrates Groundhog Day in a cute and festive way while also helping children build essential skills like cutting, gluing, and following directions.
Getting started is easy. Just download our free groundhog template as a guide and check out our step-by-step instructions below. Gather a few basic supplies, and you’ll have a burrow ready for a groundhog to pop out of in no time.
Supplies
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Markers
- White paint pen
- Groundhog template (unlock the image at the end of the post to go to the download page)

Directions
Start by downloading and printing the template. Once the template is printed, gather the materials for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this groundhog to life!

First, guide your child to glue the dirt piece in the center of the hill.

Next, glue the burrow hole in the middle of the dirt.

Position the head in the center of the hole and glue it in place.

Glue the eyes below the eyebrows.

Glue the teeth to the back and lower part of the the mouth, then place the mouth below the eyes and glue it down.

Draw the nose of the groundhog on the top portion of the mouth.

Now, help your child to draw the inner ears in the center of the ears.

Glue the clouds around the blue background paper.

Next, glue the groundhog burrow to the bottom portion of the blue background paper.

Optionally, encourage your child to draw the snowflake decorations around the groundhog’s burrow.
