As kids cut, glue, and assemble their hummingbirds, they’ll enhance their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Plus, exploring colors and shapes sparks their creativity, making learning feel like playing.

Directions

Start by downloading the template and printing it out. Once you have the template printed, gather the materials needed for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this hummingbird to life!

First, guide your child to glue the eye below the eyebrows.

Next, glue the throat feathers on the left side of the body.

Now, help your child place the front body piece on the lower part of the back body piece.

Trace your child’s hand onto a colored piece of paper, then cut it out. Repeat on a second piece of lighter colored paper. Position the lighter handprint wing on the front and right side of the body and glue it in place.

Glue the other handprint wing on the back of the body.

Finally, encourage your child to glue the beak to the left of the eye, just above the throat feathers.

Handprint Hummingbird Craft

Kids can transform their handprints into these beautiful little birds with our handprint hummingbird craft. Encourage your little ones to spread their creative wings with this fun activity. 

Materials

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Hummingbird template

Instructions

  1. Download the hummingbird template, print it, and cut out the pieces you need.
  2. Begin by gluing the eye below the eyebrows.
  3. Next, glue the throat feathers on the left side of the body.
  4. Now, place the front body part onto the lower section of the back body piece.
  5. Trace your child's hand onto a colored piece of paper and cut it out. Repeat with a lighter piece of paper. Position the lighter handprint wing on the front and right side of the body and glue it in place.
  6. Glue the other handprint wing on the back of the body.
  7. Finish off by gluing the beak to the left of the eyes, above the throat feathers.
