Cute Scarecrow Craft

This interactive craft is a fun way for young learners to practice spelling their names. Each pumpkin has a letter of their name on it, so kids hone their letter recognition and spelling skills as they put them in the correct order to spell out their name.

You can also tailor the craft for practicing handwriting by leaving the pumpkins blank to have the kids write their names on them.

Colored cardstock or construction paper

Directions

Start by downloading the template and printing it out. Once you have the template printed, gather the materials needed for this fun activity. Get those scissors ready, and let’s help the kids bring this scarecrow to life!

First, guide your child to glue the eyes below both of the eyebrows.

Use an orange marker to draw on the triangle nose in the middle of the scarecrow’s face, below the eyes. Use a pink marker to draw the cheeks at the end of both sides of the smile.

Take the hair pieces and glue them, one on each side, to the front of the face. Next, take the back hair pieces and glue them to the back of the scarecrow’s head.

Help your child take the hat and glue it to the top of the scarecrow’s head.

Glue the completed head to the top of the scarecrow’s body.

Take the scarecrow’s stick and glue it to the back and bottom of the body.

Place the completed scarecrow on a background piece of paper and glue it down.

Finally, encourage your child to arrange the pumpkin letters below the scarecrow to spell out the their name.
