Inside the template, you’ll find 2 options. The first is a black and white template. For this one, all you’ll do is print on white paper and let the kids color or paint it. Finish by cutting it out and assembling and you’re all set.

This option is great for toddlers and young kids who aren’t ready for the craft version. It’s also perfect if you’re short on time or paper!

The second option is the craft version. This version is the one we give directions for below. It’s made from paper and is great for children working on scissor skills.

Supplies

  • Colored cardstock or construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Black marker
  • Crayons (if using the color in version)
  • Tape or stapler
  • Penguin template (enter your email in the form at the end of this post to have the link sent to you)

Directions

Start by downloading and printing the penguin template, then cut out all the pieces together. This is a great chance to practice those scissor skills!

To put it together, begin by gluing the face onto the headband base—just like you see in the picture below. Next, help your child glue the eyes toward the top of the face, one on each side.

Now for the beak: place it right between the eyes so it barely touches them, and glue it down. Add the pink cheeks by gluing them under the eyes, following the picture as a guide.

For the eyebrows, you can cut some out of black paper or let your child draw them on with a black marker—either way works great!

Finally, complete the headband by attaching the extenders to the sides of the base using tape or staples. Adjust it to fit your child’s head, and they’re ready to show off their adorable penguin creation!
